Carla Harrison

is our Day School Director. Mrs. Harrison is very excited to be a part of the Educational Ministry Team at EEDS!  A native of Norfolk, she is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a degree in Speech Communication. She came to EEDS after serving for 19 years as the Director and Pre-K four-year-old teacher at a local preschool.  She is passionate that a child’s first school experience should be a positive one where the child feels loved, successful, engaged and that “school is a good place to be.”

Mrs. Harrison and her husband have two married daughters, three grandchildren, and 3 golden retriever grand-dogs.  In her spare time, Mrs. Harrison enjoys gardening, traveling, cooking, and entertaining family and friends in her home. She is looking forward to partnering with you in the education of your preschooler.

Mary Green

is the Classroom Aide and Administrative |Assistant for EEDS.  Mary moved to Virginia from Pennsylvania six years ago.  She has been married to an active duty sailor for ten years and has two children, 8 and 6, and two rescue dogs.  She holds two Associate Degrees from Butler County Community College.  Mary is an active PTA member, avid crafter, and passionate reader but most of all enjoys spending time with her family.  

Kathy Atkinson

teaches one of our M-F Four-Year-Old classes.  Mrs. Atkinson is originally from Texas and has lived in Chesapeake, VA for the last twenty-six years. She studied at The University of Texas and Western Washington University where she received a B.A. in Elementary Education. She has completed post-graduate work in the areas of speech, language development and reading.  Mrs. Atkinson has experience teaching preschool through fourth grade. Most recently, she served for 14 years as the lead three-year-old teacher at a local preschool.  This is her third year at EEDS.

Mrs. Atkinson has been married to her husband, Gary, for 39 years. They settled in the Hampton Roads area after he retired from his career as a naval aviator. They have two married daughters and  four young grand-daughters. In addition, Mrs. Atkinson is a nationally rated gymnastics judge for USA Gymnastics. When not teaching or judging gymnastics, she enjoys spending time with her family in the Catskill Mountains.


Elena Eaken

teaches one of our M-F Four-Year-Old classes. Mrs. Eaken is an Ohio native where she earned her B.A. in communications from Mount Union College. She has also studied Elementary Education at Virginia Wesleyan College where she earned her Pre-K - 6th Teaching Credentials (with a Meritorious Teacher designation) and she also taught four-year-olds at a local preschool.  This is her third year teaching at EEDS.

Mrs. Eaken has been married to her husband, Shawn, and living in Chesapeake for 16 years. She has three children ( two boys and one girl- ages 13, 8 & 6 ), two dogs and one cat. In her free time, she serves on her local PTA board, volunteers with her children's Scout troop/pack, enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

Cassandra Johnson
earned her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies at Virginia Wesleyan College and is licensed to teach PreK-6th Grade.  She taught  3rd grade in Chesapeake and 2nd grade in Virginia Beach public schools.  A native of Virginia Beach, she is fortunate to have her parents and sister in the area, too.  Married to Matt for five years, they have a 3 year old son, a cat, and a dog.  Cassandra's family enjoys tent camping and they try to go once a month during the spring and summer.  She loves to hike, make s'mores and enjoys the outdoors.  She enjoys cooking, experimenting with new recipes and loves to read.  Family and friends are always a priority.

Mary Reuss

is the Monday/Wednesday/Friday Three-Year-Old teacher in the Monday-Friday class. Mrs. Ruess has a masters degree in education from James Madison University and has been teaching for seven years.  She has taught elementary age students and is excited to work with preschool age students this fall.  She has taught both in Virginia and Florida.  Married to a resident physician, she and her husband are parents to 2 children, a three-year-old and 9 month old.  They also have a goldendoodle named Hilde!

Sharon Travaglio

is the Tuesday/Thursday teacher in the Monday-Friday Three-Year-Old class.  Her love for children is evident by her 26 years of involvement in preschool and childcare.  She has had the privilege of teaching the children of children she taught during her early years in education.  Mrs. Travaglio began as a Teacher's Aid at First Baptist Church in Norfolk and has held many preschool positions as a preschool teacher, the Church Resource Coordinator and as the Childcare Coordinator.  She taught Two and Four-Year-Olds for seven years at Bayside Baptist Church's preschool.  Her final year at Bayside she served as an Assistant for PreK.  Originally from Butler, PA, she moved to Virginia with her husband.  She has been blessed with two grown boys that still live locally.

Jenni Keyser

teaches our M-W-F Three-Year-Old class.  Mrs. Keyser was born and raised  in Omaha, NE (GO BIG RED!) where she graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Elementary Education and minor in Psychology.

While in college she specialized in Early Childhood Education and has worked as a preschool and kindergarten teacher in the past. This is her second year teaching at EEDS.

Mrs. Keyser has been married to her husband, Alex, for seven years and has two small boys and a dog. When she is not teaching she enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, being outside, working out, reading books, and taking care of her plants. She looks forward to teaching your child and instilling a love of learning in them!

Michelle Bardeen

is the co-teacher in the Monday-Friday Two-Year-Old class. Mrs. Bardeen has her BS degree in Child Psychology as well as an MBA. This is her fourth year at EEDS.  She is a mother of three children.  The oldest left for college this year to study at Purdue University. She loves working with children of all ages; however, she likes the preschool age the most. Before EEDS she worked at Rainbow Preschool in Virginia Beach. In addition to teaching, she also coaches ice skating. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and ice skating.


Athena Lovette
is the co-teacher in the Monday-Friday Two-Year-Old class. This is her third year of having the fun privilege of working with our two-year-olds. She has three teenagers and has lived in the Chesapeake area since 1996. She enjoys spending her free time with her friends and family, good books, and volunteering for a local domestic abuse shelter.
